Lancaster County Jail Roster

The official local custody search is the Lancaster County Detention Center Inmate Search. LCDC is operated through the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office and houses unsentenced inmates awaiting trial, inmates sentenced to less than 90 days, and Family Court inmates for the duration of their sentence regardless of sentence length. The research did not locate a current official jail capacity figure, so capacity should not be stated as a fact.

Lancaster County jail records are created by the detention system. They can show current custody, booking number, booking origin, charges as booked, bond or bail totals, a booking photo, and basic demographic information. A jail roster entry does not prove a conviction and does not replace the court case file. A charge that appears in the roster may later be amended, dismissed, reduced, transferred, or resolved in Magistrate Court, Municipal Court, or General Sessions.

Search Lancaster County Inmates

The LCDC roster accepts several search paths. A name search is the most common path, but exact subject or booking numbers can narrow results when those identifiers are known. During research, the results grid showed a public count line reading "Showing 1 to 100 of 220," then listed booking rows with photo and custody data.

1. Open the Lancaster County Detention Center Inmate Search portal in a browser session.
2. Leave the In Custody box checked for currently jailed only, or adjust the booking date range if looking for a recent booking.
3. Enter a name, subject number, or booking number. Exact identifiers reduce name-match problems.
4. Review the result grid for the photo, name, custody flag, race, gender, and multiple-booking indicator.
5. Click the name to open the inmate detail page and review booking history, bond totals, origin, bonds, and charges.

Use SCDC after a person is in state prison custody, not as a substitute for the current Lancaster County jail roster.

Lancaster County Roster Fields

The LCDC roster search field labels were visible in the official portal. The fields are optional or unspecified in the public form, so a user can start broad and then narrow by date or identifier if too many results appear.

The SCDC online incarcerated inmate search application is the state custody counterpart.

SCDC can help when a local jail search is empty because the person has already been moved into state custody.

Lancaster County Inmate Profile

An LCDC inmate detail page showed a structured public booking profile. The profile inventory is useful because it tells users what the county roster actually exposes and what it does not expose. The inspected sample did not show height, weight, eye color, hair color, warrant number, court date, holding pod, release date, medical flags, suicide watch, or protective custody status.

Bond and charge data in the jail profile are useful early signals, but court disposition belongs in court records. The full criminal case file can add prosecutor, judge, plea, hearing dates, sentencing, financial obligations, and final outcome.

Lancaster County Detention Contacts

LCDC is the main local jail facility documented in the research. The Detention Director is Captain Rodney Hope, and Lt. Victoria Rollings assists the Detention Division. Detention questions route to the jail number, while incident report questions go through the Sheriff's records contact.

For city police records tied to an arrest, the Lancaster Police Department has its own public-information and FOIA process.

City police records and county jail records can both matter after a city arrest, but they are not maintained in the same system.

Lancaster County Inmate Visitation

LCDC uses Smart Communications for video visitation. Visitors must create an account, receive approval from the Visitation Department, provide valid state-issued photo ID, and submit a self-photo that follows the rules. All individuals requesting visitation must be 18 or older and present valid government-issued photo ID during initial registration.

Visitation rules bar driving during a video visit, recording or taking pictures, showing a cell phone, nudity, provocative clothing, gang signs, disruptive conduct, and appearing under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Violations may lead to suspension or a ban at the Detention Center Director's discretion.

Lancaster County Jail Mail

LCDC contracts with Smart Communications for MailGuard electronic mail services. Effective May 17, 2021, inmate postal mail must be sent to Lancaster County Detention Center, inmate name and booking or ID number, PO BOX 9106, Seminole, Florida 33775-9106. The inmate's name and booking or ID number must be clearly printed on the outside of the envelope or postcard.

Legal mail, court documents, bank statements, and publications continue to be sent directly to the facility at PO Box 908, Lancaster, SC 29720. That separate route is important because legal mail is not treated like ordinary scanned postal mail.

The sheriff page says inmate funding can be applied online through JailPackStore / McDaniel Supply Co., though Lancaster-specific menus and costs were not visible without login.

JailPackStore is a funding and store account channel, not a public inmate lookup database.

LCDC also uses Smart Communications for the inmate telephone system. Users can set up or fund accounts through Smart Communications or call 1-888-843-1972. Phone account issues should be directed to that vendor support path.

Lancaster County Inmate Fallbacks

A missing LCDC roster result can have several explanations. The person may not be in custody, may have been released, may be held in another county, may have transferred to SCDC, may be in federal custody, or may be listed under a spelling variation. Current jail custody is only one slice of the record path.

VINELink is a notification resource, not a substitute for official court records or the LCDC booking profile.

For records not shown online, the Sheriff's FOIA workflow supports requests through NextRequest or a paper FOIA form that can be hand-delivered, mailed, emailed, or faxed according to the form instructions. Incident report questions are directed to Shana Coates-Cawley at 803-313-2103, and the Sheriff's Office records hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., closed holidays.

Jail Records vs Court Records

A Lancaster County jail booking record and a court record answer different questions. The jail record shows custody and booking facts. A court charge record can later appear in Magistrate, Municipal, or General Sessions court and may add a court case number, prosecutor, judge, hearing dates, plea, disposition, sentence, fines, or dismissal.

A warrant is not confirmed through the jail search unless an inmate is already booked and the warrant or charge appears in the booking detail. The Sheriff's Office does not provide warrant status by phone, so warrant questions need the official warrant channels rather than a roster-only check.
